OverviewConservation is a cost-effective means of securing future water supplies in Houston, and public awareness is necessary to increase people’s knowledge of water resources, water use and the need to conserve water. Research has shown that the more people know about their water resources, the more likely they are to participate in water conservation programs (37). Thus, education, outreach and public awareness are key players in a university’s water conservation management.
We developed a public outreach guide that will promote on-campus water conservation education for students, faculty and staff at the University of Houston. Environmental stewardship can be a visible symbol of the values and cultures of a university, and this guide will serve as a pertinent resource for the campus community to integrate sustainability into the campus culture. |
